When a brand has been part of the local culture for over 50 years, you don’t just create merch, you help carry on a legacy.
That’s exactly what we set out to do when Aqua East Surf Shop, a Jacksonville staple since 1973, came to MFG Merch looking for fresh ideas for a new lineup of t-shirts. Known for its deep roots in the surf community and its longstanding presence at the beaches, Aqua East has built a reputation that generations recognize. Our goal was to honor that history while introducing something new that would resonate with today’s customers.
From the start, this was a collaborative process. We sat down with the Aqua East team to talk through direction, inspiration, and what they wanted this next round of apparel to feel like. We explored a range of design concepts from clean, classic surf graphics to more modern, stylized visuals that could stand out on the rack. Every direction was rooted in the coastal lifestyle that defines both Aqua East and the Jacksonville community.
Great design only goes as far as the garment it’s printed on. That’s why we also worked closely with Aqua East to select the right blanks for each piece. Fit, fabric, weight, and finish all play a role in how a shirt feels and performs especially for a surf shop where comfort and durability matter.
From soft, lived-in tees to slightly heavier options with structure, we curated a selection that matched the designs and aligned with what their customers expect.
The end result is a collection of new t-shirts that feel right at home in Aqua East. Pieces that reflect their legacy while bringing in a refreshed look for the next wave of customers walking through their doors.
